Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to pursue a career in software testing.

With a degree in computer engineering and over three years of versatile experience in software quality assurance, I’ve delved into testing projects ranging from games to cutting-edge technologies like metaverse platforms, digital twins and navigation apps. My passion for QA stems from a childhood love of building intricate LEGO structures and strategizing in games. Solving complex challenges and ensuring seamless user experiences give me immense joy and drive my commitment to this ever-evolving field.

Growing up in South Korea, how has its renowned tech culture influenced your approach to testing?

South Korea’s fast-paced tech ecosystem and high standards shaped my attention to detail and efficiency. Projects like Naver Maps ingrained the importance of precision and user-centric solutions. Growing up amidst such innovation, I developed a keen ability to adapt to emerging trends while delivering solutions that truly resonate with users.

What drives you outside of work, and how do you maintain a work-life balance?

Gaming has always been a driving force in my life. My stint as a professional StarCraft 2 gamer sharpened my analytical thinking and focus. Outside work, I recharge by diving into fitness routines, reading and of course, gaming. These activities not only help me unwind but also bring a fresh perspective to my QA endeavours.

Share the most exciting moment in your career that made you want to ‘high-five’ yourself.

During the GNU Metaverse project, I tackled a critical issue affecting connection stability. Watching the platform transform into a seamless user experience after rigorous testing was a proud moment. It reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of QA and the impact it has on innovative technologies.

What is your approach to ensuring quality and functionality while testing innovative technologies like Metaverse, Digital Twin and Blockchain?

My approach begins with a deep dive into the technology’s core architecture and a clear understanding of its purpose and user needs. This foundation helps me identify critical areas to focus on, ensuring that I design a test plan tailored to the unique demands of each technology. For instance, in a metaverse project, I prioritize interaction quality and immersive experiences, while for blockchain, the focus shifts to security, transaction integrity, and scalability.

I combine API testing, performance analysis, and scenario-based tests to uncover potential issues under real-world conditions. Continuous collaboration with developers and stakeholders through iterative feedback loops allows me to refine the product and ensure stability, functionality, and user satisfaction. My ultimate goal is to deliver solutions that not only meet technical standards but also create a seamless and impactful user experience.

In what ways has your experience testing apps like Evony and Smilegate contributed to your growth as a QA professional?

Testing for Evony deepened my understanding of real-time strategy games, teaching me how to create detailed test plans while enhancing user engagement. Working with Smilegate allowed me to refine my technical expertise, particularly in performance optimization and Unity integration. These projects have expanded my QA skills, preparing me for challenges in multiple domains.

Can you share an unforgettable bug you found that had a surprising impact on the user experience?

In the Pivo Tour app, I uncovered a delay between motion tracking and tour creation that impacted usability. Fixing this issue resulted in a significant improvement in user experience, proving that even the smallest bug can drastically affect user satisfaction.

What’s the best feedback you’ve received as a tester that made you think, ‘Nailed it!’?

After completing the Unity Metaverse project, the project manager commended my retrospective report and process improvement recommendations, calling them a benchmark for future initiatives. It felt incredibly rewarding to see my insights valued and used as a blueprint for excellence.

How was your experience collaborating with a different culture through your association with Testvox?

Working with Testvox gave me the opportunity to engage with a diverse group of testers, enhancing my ability to approach QA from various cultural perspectives. The experience of working alongside Testvox professionals was truly awesome—they were incredibly supportive and helped me grow professionally. This collaboration taught me the importance of understanding global user needs and adapting testing strategies to ensure a truly inclusive user experience.

Lastly, what message would you like to share with aspiring testers around the globe?

Embrace curiosity and keep learning. Software testing is an ever-evolving field, and your ability to adapt is key to success. Take pride in your role as a tester, knowing that your work plays a crucial part in improving the digital experiences of users from all walks of life.
